a noob asking how to play online

Hi everyone!
I am new to this community and this is my first post. I played AvP2 in the good old times when there were oficial servers for the game. So i think it's now more than 2 years that i didn't play the game online.
Now I want to play online again and was looking for servers. I didn't find a thread in which everything is explained. So here are my questions:

On which servers do you guys play? I live in southamerica and my internet connection isn't that fast. So which server would be "lag free" for me?
What version of the game do I need to play on these servers? At the moment I still have the version 1.0.9.1 installed. And where do I find the patches?

i like all, but maybe the most alien.
what modes do u guys play? how do u play?
its a long time since i played, but never in a clan.
i used to play tdm, dm, evac and survivor.


EDIT: what i feared happened! the lowest ping on the serverlist is 600 :S And most of the servers have a ping of 900... Is there a way I could reduce de ping?

EDIT2: I can't log on. Everytime I try the loading screen appears and after a while it says that i have been timed out... Some help plz

i can't even play single player mode.
it happens the same. the loading screen appears and nothing happens. it gets stuck and i have to press crtl+alt+del

Hmmm, that usually happens if you don't have the Single Player files. Or for some reason, the game isn't loading the Single Player files.


They are REZ files.




Go into your AVP2 main folder and see if you have files called: MARINE.REZ | ALIEN.REZ| or PREDATOR.REZ


If you do, you have the single player files and for some reason they aren't loading. If you don't have them, they are obviously missing.

So if you don't have them, tell me and I can upload those files for you.

all three rez files are there (marine. rez, alien.rez and predator.rez)
i was plazing in single player before i installed all the files I mentioned above.

so, what could be the problem? nothing is loading. i cant start a new single player game, neither load a saved one or play online.

no, it wasn't the antivirus.
i reinstalled the AvP2SMSInstall_1.5.2 and then it worked.

BUT now i have a new problem. Single Player works fine, but now i don't see any servers on the server list.
i tried turning off the firewall, but it is the same. i don't see a server on the list.

I have Windows vista.
and in the command line says: -rez ump2
is that what it must say?

what must be the command line then?
or must it be empty?

EDIT: I left the command line empty, now the serverlist ist populated again. But as soon as i want to join a game it loads and after 10 secs it says:
Disconnected: your connection has timed out

reinstalling didn't work.
I can play single player normaly.
I can see servers on the serverlist. But when I try to connect to a server it says after a time "disconnected: your connection has been timed out"

i turned my antivirus off and the firewall was also turned off...

i don't know what else i can do to try to fix this.
plz help!
