lets go to the basics. Ionizing radiation could be Alpha or Beta decay, Alpha sends away a core of 2 protons and neutrons/positrons. Now Beta decay is a little fishy, it sends an electron(B-) or positron (B+). there are no electrons in the core, then how? A neutron transforms into a proton and one electron, and because they dont belong in the core they shoot it out. (one proton increase means new element.) When either alpha or beta reaches our atoms and it knocks an electron of the atoms making them positive.

do i have to explain more? maybe uranium 238 decay chain? geez.
