Long dead remains of a Clan once prospered within a video game that is as old as time itself. Yar.

This error can be caused by an outdated driver, a driver conflict, or a video card that does not meet the minimum system requirements of the game.

Make sure that DirectDraw and Direct3D Accleration is enabled:

- Left-Click START, RUN and type "DXDIAG" in the Open Field (no quotes).
- Once the DirectX Diagnostic Utility has come up, left-click the DISPLAY Tab.
- On the bottom portion of the screen, under DirectX Features, locate DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration.
- Make sure both of these options are Enabled.
- Now try the game.

If the game still gives the "COULDNT SET D3D EMULATION MODE" error,
make sure that the system is using the latest driver software for the video card.

To the identify the hardware/update the drivers:

- Left-Click START, RUN and type "DXDIAG" in the Open Field (no quotes).
- Once the DirectX Diagnostic Utility has come up, left-click the DISPLAY Tab.
- Where it says Device make note of the name of your video card.
- Where it says "Drivers" make note of the version of the driver your video card
is using.
Note: If the Approx total memory does not say 16 MB or higher, the program will not run.

Use this information to go to the card manufacturers' Web sites:
http://www.nvidia.com
http://www.atitech.ca
http://www.diamondmm.com
http://www.guillemot.com
http://www.matrox.com
http://www.3dfx.com
http://www.creativelabs.com

From the manufacturer's Web site, select and download the driver with the most current date for the particular model card as listed within the device manager for the version of Windows ('95 or '98) installed on the computer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to install these updates (since they will be specific to your particular hardware, we won't have instructions for you).

Many manufacturers update their drivers every three months. Updating your
drivers usually eliminates conflicts, expands features, increases stability, and provides application-specific bug fixes that the manufacturer chooses to address.

Alternatively, you can contact the system vendor to find out where to go to obtain drivers for the hardware[u]
